About The Wilderness Journey Interfaith Fused Glass Art

The Wilderness Journey images arose from a compelling dream. (Click here for a detailed description of the dream.) The images illuminate the common ground shared by the three Abrahamic faith traditions when the forbears of Jews, Christians and Muslims wandered the Sinai Peninsula wilderness for 40 years. Each tradition’s literature speaks of following divine guidance in the form of a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. The pillar with wings represents the Hebrew Shekinah and Arabic Sakina. She is the indwelling presence of the divine in the feminine aspect, who hovers over the temple and, like a mother bird, protects her children under her wings.

About the Technique

The artist used graduated sizes of ground glass, from fine powders to chunks, to create the image on a clear glass canvas. Each glass tile has been fired 3 times. The 12” tile format is chosen because of glass properties in the firing process and for stability of the finished piece.

Installation of the Triptych

The frames are freestanding and require no additional support. The top grid of the frame is separate from the legs, which are then bolted together. The top grid is constructed to allow it to be displayed separately, either hung in front of a glass window or on a wall.

The glass tiles are removable and are placed in the grid of the frame after shipping.
Suggested placement is against a white wall with ceiling lighting above and in front.
