The Jewish Wedding Gallery: The Yemenite Bride

A Jewish bride from Yemen dances solo, carrying a branch to symbolize her fertility. Her dress is typical of the area and almost indistinguishable from that of her Moslem neighbors. For centuries the Yemenite Jews have lived among the Sunni and Zaidi Moslems in Southern Arabia. From the time of Mohammed until recently, they were entirely separated from their Jewish brothers and sisters in other parts of the world. Some claim to be of the tribe of Gad.
