❦ About the Painting

    King Alfonso X of Castile and Sultan Ibn Ahmar of Granada sit on either side of the tomb of Alfonso’s father, King Ferdinand of Castile. Ferdinand and Ibn Ahmar became friends and that friendship extended to Alfonso. Because of that friendship Granada experienced peace for another two hundred years, enough time for the descendants of Ibn Ahmar to build the final glorious monument of al-Andalus, the Alhambra.
